Allendale County Schools issued the following announcement on January 26.
Future City is a project-based learning program where students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future.
Future City is one of the nation’s leading engineering education programs and has received national recognition and acclaim for its role in encouraging middle schoolers to develop their interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Mr. Pinckney, Allendale-Fairfax Middle School teacher shared how his students participated in this year’s competition.
“Each year, the Future City Competition challenges middle school students to solve an authentic engineering problem. This year’s problem challenged students to design a waste-free city using the principles of a circular economy.” said Pinckney.
Our Allendale-Fairfax Middle School scholars won the Most Creative Use of Materials award featuring “Aurora City” sponsored by the American Concrete Institute.
Each award comes with an acrylic plaque for the school, certificates for all winning team members and $100 in gift cards.
