Keep Bamberg County Beautiful, in partnership with City of Refuge Ministries led by Pastor Hezekiah Wroten, hosted a community litter cleanup on March 7 along Heritage Highway in Denmark. The event brought together nine volunteers who collected 13 bags of litter from the area surrounding City of Refuge Ministries at 22165 Heritage Highway.
The cleanup aimed to improve the appearance of the neighborhood and promote environmental stewardship among residents. Volunteers included Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman, City of Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson, City of Denmark Councilwoman and Keep Bamberg County Beautiful Board Member Charnda Sanders Williams, Executive Director Alisha Moore, church members, and other community supporters.
“This cleanup shows what can happen when the community comes together with a shared purpose,” said Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman. “Even with a small group of volunteers, we were able to make a visible impact in a short amount of time. I’m proud to support initiatives like this that improve our community and encourage residents to take pride in where we live.”
Mayor Harold Johnson said, “The City of Denmark is grateful for the partnership with Keep Bamberg County Beautiful and City of Refuge Ministries. When residents, local leaders, and community organizations work together, we can keep our neighborhoods cleaner and create a more welcoming environment for everyone.”
Alisha Moore emphasized the importance of volunteer involvement: “Every bag of litter removed makes a difference,” Moore said. “This cleanup demonstrates how much can be accomplished when volunteers step up to protect and beautify their community. We are grateful to City of Refuge Ministries for hosting us and to all of our volunteers who helped make this event a success.”
Keep Bamberg County Beautiful will hold another litter pickup later this month as part of South Carolina Sweep, an annual statewide initiative organized by PalmettoPride that encourages communities across South Carolina to remove litter and promote environmental responsibility.
