Town of Edisto Beach issued the following announcement on January 12.
According to the National Weather Service low pressure is expected to track across the area this weekend. There is a low probability for temperatures well inland to hover near 32 degrees, and some freezing rain/light ice accumulation cannot be ruled out late Saturday night into Sunday morning. If this scenario unfolds, light freezing rain could occur at communities between Moncks Corner, Harleyville, Smoaks, Allendale, Hilltonia and Millen.
As of early Wednesday morning, odds still greatly favor rain with temperatures a few degrees above freezing in these areas Saturday night into Sunday. As a result, the NWS has not included a mention of freezing rain within official National Weather Service Charleston SC forecasts. However, since freezing rain occurs infrequently in our area, and even light amounts of freezing rain can cause travel and other problems, the NWS wanted to ensure that you are aware of this developing and still uncertain situation.
The NWS will continue to assess the potential impacts from the weekend storm and will provide you with updated information as needed.
