Colleton County Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Management Division has been made aware of a scheduled power outage by Dominion Energy on Friday, July 29, 2022 in the communities of Ruffin, Smoaks and Williams. This outage is necessary to perform critical maintenance to distribution facilities. Although the scheduled maintenance window is between 8 AM and 4 PM, Dominion hopes to have the work completed by lunch time that day. We have had a number of
inquiries regarding opening a shelter in the area. Unfortunately, the reserve shelter in that area will also be without power and the backup generator only powers the lights inside the building, not the air conditioning system.
Fire-Rescue’s Emergency Management Division will monitor conditions during the outage. We have been in contact with various emergency support function partner agencies to plan for tasking resources in the event the outage lasts longer than anticipated. We will distribute additional information over social media or through our Code RED mass notification platform, if necessary. Register for Code RED notifications at http://colletonfire.com/codered.
